Ibogaine For The Treatment Drug Addictions

The root bark from the Tabernanthe Iboga shrub, that grows in Central West Africa, particularly in Gabon, has been used for thousands of years in ceremonial rituals of the Bwiti tribe. Ibogaine is a substance that occurs naturally in the root bark of this shrub and used as a medication to assist patients in rehab centers with drug withdrawal symptoms.

The anti-addictive properties of Ibogaine have demonstrated an interruption of the symptoms of drug withdrawal and a reduction of craving for extended periods, allowing detoxification to take place with a minimum of discomfort.  It appears that it has the ability to reset the neurotransmitter function of the brain to a state prior to addiction.  Ibogaine is once again undergoing FDA approved clinical trials at the University of Miami.
